Do I Need a Rental Vehicle in Culebra?

It depends on your interests and travel style.

If you enjoy walking and staying active, you may not need a rental vehicle. However, keep in mind that Culebra is larger than many visitors expect.

For example, walking from downtown Culebra to Flamenco Beach is approximately 2.5 miles under the Caribbean sun.

While it is possible to explore without a vehicle, having transportation can make it easier to visit beaches, restaurants, scenic overlooks, and attractions throughout the island.

Although Culebra is small, it is not quite as small as many visitors imagine. A rental vehicle provides flexibility and convenience, especially during warmer months.

Can I Walk from the Ferry Terminal to Town?

Yes.

Downtown Culebra is located just a short distance from the Ferry Terminal and can generally be reached within 5 to 10 minutes on foot.

Which Beaches Are Best for Snorkeling?

Culebra offers several excellent snorkeling locations.

These beaches are part of Culebra's protected marine ecosystem and are known for their clear waters, coral formations, tropical fish, and sea turtles.

If you're new to snorkeling, Tamarindo is often one of the easiest places to start. The water is usually calm, and sea turtle sightings are common.

Which Beach Is Best for Families with Children?

Flamenco Beach is generally considered the best beach for families.

Many families especially enjoy the small pier area known locally as El Muellecito de Flamenco, where the water is often calm and suitable for children.

Should I Bring Cash?

Yes.

While many businesses accept credit cards, it is always a good idea to carry some cash.

Why?

  • Power outages occasionally occur.
  • Some businesses prefer cash payments.
  • Some vendors may not accept cards.

Its western-facing views and calm waters create beautiful evening scenery.

Where Is the Best Place to See the Stars?

My favorite places are Melones Beach and the Ensenada Honda Boardwalk. Both offer very little light pollution and peaceful surroundings that make stargazing unforgettable. Ventanas al Mar and Coral Pier are also wonderful options.

Yes.

Taxis are usually available when the ferry arrives. During busy weekends and holidays, however, there may be a short wait.

Yes.

Culebra is generally considered one of the safest destinations in Puerto Rico. As with any destination, use common sense and avoid leaving valuables unattended.

Yes.

Tap water in Culebra is safe to drink, although many visitors prefer bottled or filtered water.

Culebra has one gas station, so it's a good idea to refuel before returning your rental vehicle.

How many days should I stay in Culebra?

I recommend spending at least two or three nights. While many visitors come for just one day, staying longer gives you time to enjoy different beaches, explore the island at a relaxed pace, experience Culebra after sunset, and truly appreciate its natural beauty.

Where can I park if I'm staying in town?

Public parking is available in several areas of downtown Culebra. Always obey posted signs and avoid blocking driveways or intersections.

Is there an ATM?

Yes. An ATM is located near the Ferry Terminal.

What is the best time of year to visit Culebra?

Culebra is beautiful year-round. Spring and early summer usually offer excellent beach weather, while weekends and holidays tend to be busier.
