Coral's Insider Tip
Coral Pier holds a very special place in my heart. I grew up here. My aunt, Coral Márquez, lived right across from the pier and was the person who built it. By coincidence, I was also named Coral, so growing up around a pier that carried my own name made it feel even more meaningful.
As children, this was our playground. We spent countless afternoons fishing, riding pedal boats that were kept on a nearby lot, and making memories with classmates, neighbors, and lifelong friends. Those simple moments shaped some of my happiest childhood memories.
Today, every time I visit Coral Pier, I'm reminded that Culebra is more than beautiful beaches — it's a place filled with stories, traditions, and memories that connect generations. For me, this isn't just one of the island's most beautiful waterfront spots; it's a place that will always feel like home.
Melones at Night
Although Melones is best known as one of Culebra's premier snorkeling destinations, it transforms into a completely different place after sunset. Facing west toward the Luis Peña Nature Reserve, Melones offers breathtaking sunsets, peaceful evenings, and one of the best places on the island to enjoy the stars. With very little light pollution and the soothing sound of the Caribbean Sea, it's the perfect setting to unwind and reconnect with nature.

It's a favorite place for couples, photographers, and anyone looking to experience Culebra beyond its beaches.

Coral's Insider Tip
If you ask me where I would go to end a perfect day in Culebra, Melones would be at the top of my list. I love coming here just before sunset, watching the sky slowly change colors behind Luis Peña, and staying after dark as the first stars begin to appear. The sound of the gentle waves, the fresh Caribbean breeze, and the peaceful surroundings create one of the most relaxing experiences you'll find anywhere on the island. If you're looking for a place to disconnect from the world and reconnect with nature, Melones after sunset is truly magical.

Coral's Insider Tip
For me, the Plaza is much more than a town square — it's a place filled with memories. As a child, this was where Culebra's festivals and carnivals came to life, and where generations gathered to celebrate. My grandmother knew there would be older teenagers hanging around the Plaza, so she often tried to keep me from going. Somehow, I always found a way to sneak over because I loved the excitement and energy of the place.
Today, I still enjoy sitting in the Plaza and simply watching life unfold. Since it's located right next to the ferry terminal, you can watch visitors arrive, locals greet one another, and experience the vibrant atmosphere of downtown Culebra. Many of the island's restaurants, bars, and shops are just steps away, making it the perfect place to relax, people-watch, and decide where you'd like to explore next. If you want to experience the heartbeat of Culebra, this is where I recommend you begin.
From Coral
A Local's Final Thoughts
When the sun sets, Culebra doesn't go to sleep; it simply changes its rhythm.
Many visitors think the island is only about beaches, but as someone who has lived here my entire life, I can tell you that some of Culebra's most memorable moments happen after dark. Whether you're looking for a lively evening with great food and music or a quiet place to admire the stars, there's something special waiting for you.
If you'd like to experience Culebra's social side, explore our local favorites like JJ Grill & Bar, El Batey, La Lobina, Golden China, and Heather's Pizza, Sandbar and many other places... Each has its own personality, from handcrafted cocktails and karaoke nights to live music, delicious food, and warm conversations with both residents and fellow travelers. One of my favorite things about Culebra is that it's easy to spend the evening strolling from one place to another, discovering a different atmosphere at every stop.
But if your heart is searching for something quieter, Culebra offers an entirely different kind of nightlife. Places like Melones, The Boardwalk, Ventanas al Mar, and Coral Pier become peaceful sanctuaries where the stars shine brightly above the Caribbean Sea. These are the places where I go to slow down, breathe deeply, listen to the gentle sound of the waves, and reconnect with nature. Sometimes, the best evening in Culebra doesn't involve music or crowds — it simply means sitting beside the water with someone you love or enjoying a peaceful moment all to yourself.
My hope is that, before you leave our little island, you'll experience both sides of Culebra after sunset: the laughter shared around a table with friends and the quiet wonder of a sky filled with stars.
Because that's the real magic of Culebra. It's not just a place you visit... It's a place that stays with you long after you've gone home.
